If you are considering a career in logistics, there are many worthwhile options to choose from, from those careers actually responsible for physically transporting items such as a self employed courier or truck driver to those on the planning and administration side such as logistics co-ordinators and importers.
Those careers which entail transporting goods or documents from one place to another can be a rewarding and suitable career for those people who like the freedom of the road. With varied (but often long) hours and a regular change of scenery, they can be ideal for those who do not like to be stuck in one place. They can however be quite stressful at times and some jobs can mean long periods away from the family.
The planning types of jobs can suit people who are very methodically minded. Planning truck loads takes mathematical skills (but it very satisfying when done correctly) and importing requires a whole lot of skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of importation regulations and codes and the effect that this has on tax and other financial implications.
There are also many other jobs within logistics such as warehouse managers and warehouse floor staff. It is often possible to begin at the bottom and progress up through the company.
